National Buddhist Training Camp 2008
Attended a National Buddhist Leadership Training Camp from 25th Dec 2008 till 29th Dec 2008 at Bagan Serai, Perak.
Day 1
Reached Pudu bus station at around 7.20am as my bus was to leave at 8am. 6 of us went together: Shoon Loong, Hon Lean, Jia Wen, Wen Quan, Kha Yee and I. Our destination was Kamunting(ISA detention center). I slept throughout the 4 hours journey. XD
We arrived at the Kamunting bus station around 12pm. Some of the committee members were there to greet us. We had to board another public bus to Bagan Serai. This took another 45 minutes and RM3.80. The ride was quite cool as the bus driver rarely hit the brakes, and there were many sharp corners to be negotiated. If only Rapid KL bus drivers were this motivated……..
Bagan Serai is actually just a small town. Nothing much to describe. Quite peaceful. Well at least there’s a shopping center though. No MCD and KFC. Just a shop called Mary Brown. We went to have our lunch at a nearby restaurant. Ordered ‘kung poh chicken’, seaweed soup, and 6 fried eggs. Yes. SIX. The cook must be cursing silently back at the kitchen. Then just suddenly, two guys barge in and said, “We come to fetch you all one.” Quite shocking actually when a total stranger suddenly say they know who are we and will be fetching us to the temple. Anyway, we duly obliged and followed his van and off we go.
Surprisingly, the temple was quite nice. The scenary was quite beautiful, the toilet was nicely done. The only catch was that we had to sleep on the floor. @@ Luckily I was smart enough this time to bring pillow and blanket. XD
As a summary, we did some ice breaking, gotta know each other more, the opening ceremony and its time to sleep. =)
Day 2,3,4,5
Lazy to type d. XD. I will just summarize the facts here. Throughout the next four days, we were taught to know more of ourselves, know our good qualities and weaknesses, realize all the 贵人 who had helped and guided us in our lives. I mentioned my mum, uncle, grandmother and my friend Kok Hong(who has been a very very very very good listener for me throughout this year). A big thank you to all of you!=D Then we tried to set targets on how can we help our Buddhist Societies and discover our 初心 for joining and staying back in the Buddhist society.
There was one activity that we had to play a game, and whoever lost, the leader needs to get punished. I volunteered and got 60 pumpings. @@ This was to show that in a group, the leader and the members are equally important. However when things go wrong, the leaders are the ones who kena gao gao. So being a leader is not fun as he/she has to bear many responsibilities.
The last activity was where each group has to think of a way on how to promote Buddhism to youths. When the prize giving ceremony was being held, a facilitator just barged in and tore their papers into bits. Everybody was shocked (although many knew it was just a prank. Quite a serious one though) This activity was to show that many people may disagree with what we do, and we are on the verge of victorious, everything can just collapse just like that. 人生无常ma right? So in this kind of situation, can Buddhism really help us?? Hmmm…
Last but not least there’s the usual 感恩夜. Cried for the very first time after saying my thoughts. I am 18 now lo, my chance to join these kind of activities are getting lesser and lesser….sigh…old liao…haha…=’( Anyway, I will always remember all the things we had gone through and all the memories!! Thanks everybody!!!
Time to go back~~~T_T
The closing ceremony sucks this year. No showing of photos at all. Sigh. Anyway, my bus was at 12.30pm SHARP. There was really too little time to say goodbye to everybody. T_T. Tried to wish my friends goodbye and taking pictures with them. We will meet again I am sure. =)
