Macau Trip 2012 - Macau-Zhu Hai Border

After spending a full day and night at Macau, we then moved on to our next destination, Zhuhai (珠海). To do so, our tour bus brought us over to the border to cross the immigration. Macau is just next to mainland China and because of this, many Chinese nationals love to cross the border to come over to Macau and vice-versa. Casinos have also took this opportunity to provide many free shuttle buses in front of the immigration complex for tourists alike to head over to their hotels.

Crossing the border is pretty straight forward. Depending which way you are entering from, you have to cross 2 immigration complexes. One is the Macau immigration and the other the China immigration. Crossing the immigration can be a really tedious process as there are a lot, A LOT of people crossing the border every single minute. To makes matter worst, most of the queuing lines are dedicated to Chinese nationals and  Macau nationals. For the China immigration there is one dedicated line for foreigners while there is non at the Macau complex.

Macau - Zhuhai Border
Look at the crowd! Took us about 1 hour just to get into the building!

Crossing over from Macau to Zhu Hai wasn't too bad. The whole process took me about 1.5 hours but on the journey back from Zhu Hai it took me a staggering 3 hours!!! @_@ This will be the first and last time I am visiting Zhu Hai through this means. I'd rather take a ferry from Hong Kong directly and save me all the trouble of squeezing around all those people.

Upon clearing the immigration complexes, the popular Gong Bei Underground Shopping Mall (拱北地下廣場) awaits us at the other end...
